Samarium Cobalt Ring Magnets
Shop our range of samarium cobalt (SmCo) ring magnets, a strong rare-earth magnet frequently used in motors, machinery, sensors and research. Often chosen for their ability to withstand a wide range of temperatures, samarium magnets are essential for industries with extremely high or low operating temperatures.
Samarium cobalt ring magnets, like neodymium magnets, are a type of rare-earth magnet. These kinds of permanent magnets only suffer minute losses of magnetism over time. Although neodymium is the stronger of the two, samarium cobalt magnets can handle a wider range of temperatures and are much more resistant to corrosion.
Samarium ring magnets can operate at temperatures as high as 350⁰C, while regular neodymium magnets can only withstand temperatures up to 80⁰C. They can be magnetised with the north and south pole on opposite circular faces, or they can be diametrically magnetised so that the poles are on opposing curved sides.
First developed in the 1970s, samarium cobalt magnets were considered a magnetic revolution – tripling the maximum energy product of any other magnet. Until the discovery of neodymium magnets, samarium cobalt magnets were the strongest magnet available.
